Sarat JAC to claim body; many dread returning home

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the brutal murder of Soibam Sarat has agreed to claim his mortal remains following an understanding reached with the district administration.
The JAC had a meeting with senior officials of Jiribam district administration and police on Sunday night during which the officials agreed to consider the demands of the JAC which include arrest of the perpetrators within two weeks, payment of ex-gratia to the bereaved family and providing a suitable government job to the next of kin of the victim.
Consequently, the JAC agreed to claim the body of Sarat.
On the other hand, residents of Lamtai Khunou, Loukoipung, Bhutankhal, Harinagar and Barak Circle, who are taking refuge at Borobekra police station held a joint meeting on Monday and resolved to abandon their villages, which have been set ablaze by Hmar/Kuki militants.
The joint meeting strongly condemned the absence of government officials in the area even after four days of eruption of the violence.
Considering the prevailing situation, they resolved to leave their villages and move to safer locations as they could no longer live and earn their livelihood there.
Unless the district administration arrange for their evacuation, they would move out by themselves, the meet resolved while adding that any unfortunate incident faced by them shall be the responsibility of the government, local MLA, district administration and police department.
Meanwhile, Thaugan Marup informed that joint meeting of the Meetei was organised at Jaribond Laishramkhun on June 8 denouncing the brutal killing of S Sarat.
The meeting also discussed to extending help through contacting CSOs in Cachar and Jiribam.
The participants of the meeting also paid respect to all those who sacrificed their lives for protecting the land, it informed.
Manipur Ima also denounced the killing of Soibam Sarat and further urged all to join hands and fight against Kuki narco-terrorists.
Recalling Amit Shah's statement for restoration of peace post Lok Sabha election, it contended that as the Kuki started killing Meetei after the election, the state and central governments need to push out narco-terrorists from Manipur.
