Imphal, August 08, 2014:
Spokesperson of Manipur unit of BJP, RK Shivachandra said on Thursday the then UPA Government at the Centre chided the state Government when request was made for imposition of ILP in the state, so experts must be invited to solve the serious issue.
Meghalaya Government has been working towards regulating the Land Maintenance Act in that state while the Inner Line Permit is still enforced in the states of Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh with the consents of the Governors, Shivachandra told mediapersons at the state BJP office here.
He said ILP systems are being put in effect in the neighbouring states because their Governments want the Act and stressed that it is discussable whether the same formula can be applied in Manipur too.
A clear-cut policy is needed to check the inflow of large number of Kuki-Chin people from neighbouring Myanmar into the state who have allegedly enjoyed dual citizenship, apart from influx of Bangladeshis, he said.
The BJP leader said awareness on illegal immigrants should be given to the villagers of the porous border, adding the Settlement Department needs to step up work relates to settlement process.
"We also need to introduce Land Use Policy," he said.
The state BJP spokesperson demanded that all the people arrested by the police over the ILP issue be released without any conditions.
Referring to the all political party meeting on ILP issue convened by Manipur Government yesterday, Shivachandra said it was a good step, but added that it is also very important to seek suggestions and opinion from all the stakeholders and social organizations on the issue.
