Institutes, army, AR observe World Health Day

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) observed World Health Day 2025 at its Jubilee Hall on Monday, under the global theme 'Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Futures'.
In a release, RIMS informed that the observance aims to raise awareness about the importance of accessible and equitable healthcare for all, with special focus on early health interventions and preventive care for a better future.
In their addresses, RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma emphasised cleanliness, individual responsibility, and RIMS' decade-long achievements under the Kayakalp initiative as medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh, expressed heartfelt gratitude to media persons in acknowledgement of their role in raising health awareness.

The observance also featured yoga session, debating competition on 'Single-use Plastic: Boon or Curse?', and a 'Voice Of the Student' session on the theme 'What a Healthy Future Means to Me' .
The observance was also attended by RIMS deputy director (Admn), dean (academics), principals of Nursing and Dental colleges, heads of departments, faculty members, nursing staff, students and teachers from various schools.
Meanwhile, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) marked World Health Day 2025 with an awareness programme on maternal and new-born care at the Shija auditorium, attended by around 100 participants, including Shija caregivers and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) from across Imphal.
The event was also streamed live on Facebook to reach a wider audience, a release by SHRI AGM (business development) Premilt Lourembam said.
As a part of the event, consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist Dr Dipenty L presented key data on maternal mortality in India and Manipur and outlined the main causes and areas of concern while Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS) Obstetrics & Gynaecology head Dr Kharibam Paikhomba highlighted the crucial role of ASHA workers and emphasised the need for continued training to strengthen healthcare delivery at the community level.
Meanwhile, a free health camp was conducted at Shija City Dental Hospital, Kakching, offering free consultations in plastic & reconstructive surgery, ENT, orthopaedics, dermatology, and ophthalmology.
More than 350 people received quality medical care.
On the other hand, World Health Day was observed by the Indian Army with a special medical camp at Khurkul, to provide essential healthcare services and to raise awareness about hygiene practices.
According to PRO Defence, the camp featured health check-ups, medicine distribution, and free health screenings for anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, and other health issues besides distribution of sanitary pads.
Over 200 locals of all age groups attended and benefitted from the medical camp conducted by the Army doctors.

Similarly, Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) observed World Health Day on Monday with a series of initiatives aimed at improving public health, nutrition awareness and community wellness across different districts of Manipur.
In a release PRO IGAR (S) informed that in Ukhrul district, a lecture on health & hygiene was conducted at Greenland Veterinary Hospital, focusing on prevention of waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera and hepatitis, vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue and chikungunya and awareness on personal hygiene, clean surroundings, and sanitation to combat seasonal illnesses.
Simultaneously, a medical camp was organised at Chahkap village, Chandel district benefiting total of 84 patients including 44 women, and five children.
In Moreh, Tengnoupal district, AR hosted a vibrant Millets Mela under the theme 'Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures', highlighting the nutritional value of millets and their role in boosting immunity.
As a part of World Health Day 2025, Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, India (JSAI) raised a collective voice for ensuring health rights of all from more than 125 districts of 20 states and union territories.
In a release, JSAI Manipur convener Aribam Rishikanta Sharma said a memorandum containing eight demands was presented to President Droupadi Murmu, chief ministers/Governors and health ministers/chief secretaries of 18 states including Manipur through district and sub-divisional level officers.
The JSAI memorandum demanded halt to privatisation of health sector; free provision of medicines at public healthcare facilities, tax exemption on life saving and essential medicines; enacting Right to Health Act that binds the public and private health sector and strengthens the public health sector through increased funding, at least by 2.5 per cent of the GDP; decentralisation of healthcare governance system, strengthen and expand public health sector including community level services; universal implementation of Clinical Establishment Act in all the states; ensure food security, safe drinking water, employment, safe environment, women s safety, safe working environment, etc .
