LIKE THE previous years, the United People's Front, Manipur, UPF in association with Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) will observed "Reconciliation Day" which marked unification of Manipuris settling in different parts of the globe at Kangla forth on January 9 .
Giving a detail on the observation of the day, a statement of the UPF today said that the day has been observed to remember the seven year devastation of Manipur in the hand of the Awa (now Burma) in the year 1819-1826 as the historic event has become more meaningful in the prevailing social structures of the state.
The objective of the function is to build up a united strength of the Manipuri people settling in different part of the world and make a strong nation.
The objective itself remembers the seven year devastation of the then Manipuri kingdom by the Awa which remains written with golden ink in the history of Manipur.
At that time, there arose conflicts over among the princes who become dishonest with the influence of the arrival Hindu religion and made with the raj dance of the Maharaja Bheigyachandra which resulted in the division among them and lobby among themselves for the throne of the King.
Taking advantage of the situation, Awa invented Manipur and tortured the people, raped the women, killed people by confining them in room and by burning pepper which now remember in the heart of the people as unforgettable event as "Chahi Taret Khuntakpa".
Knig Chinglen Nongdren Khomba took the main role in re-collected the Manipuris scattered in all direction to save themselves from the tortures meted out by the Awa warriors and also took the help of British India to resume the loss kingdom of Manipur.
"The event itself indicated to recollect among ourselves can build a strong nation and protect the nation.
But it needs to do under a able leadership," the UPF observed in its statement while calling the people to attend the observation of the day at Kangla hall on January 9 at 10.30 am.
