Nationalist Congress Party (SP) supremo and former union minister Sharad Pawar, while expressing disappointment over the protracted ethnic violence in Manipur, said that he would urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action to bring back peace and normalcy to the state.
Sharad Pawar, who is orchestrating Party's plan and campaign for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls, said the protraction of violence for over 17 months is too much, and it should be halted.
"I will urge the Prime Minister for bringing a halt to the ongoing turmoil in Manipur and bring back peace and normalcy in the state," Pawar told a group of senior journalists from Manipur at his party's office chamber in Pune on September 30.The unprecedented ethnic conflict claimed over 240 lives and forced more than 60,000 people belonging to both the opposing Meetei and Kuki communities of the state to flee their homes and take shelter at different relief camps.
On the other hand, a large number of eminent, social activists, academicians, writers, poets, theatre personalities, etc., of Maharashtra held interaction programmes in Pune on Manipur conflict under the aegis of Sarhad, a prominent social, educational and cultural organisation working for the welfare of the people living in strife-torn border areas of the country.
During the interactive sessions, the visiting journalists - Brojendro Ningombam, K Sarojkumar Sharma and Keisham Yaiphaba - narrated the factual events of the conflict that broke out on May 3 last year.
