Imphal, July 06 2026: Six student bodies have urged all educational institutions to observe "Athoubasinggi Numit" on August 13 to instill a sense of patriotism among students.

Athoubasinggi Numit remembers freedom fighters and martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.On August 13, 1891, Yuvraj Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged at Pheidabung, now known as Bir Tikendrajit Park in Imphal.

Speaking to reporters at MSF office at Kwakeithel, the six student bodies' coordinator, Hijam Roshan, stressed the importance of tracing the footsteps of "our forefathers", and urged all educational institutions and Departments of the Government to observe the Patriots' Day.

Roshan urged schools and colleges to organise events that could instill a sense of patriotism among students.

The six student bodies include Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpang Lup (AIMS) .
