State records significant rise in sale of 2W, passenger vehicles

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the vehicle retail data for June 2024, revealing a significant recovery in sales figures of two-wheeler and passenger vehicles for the state from last year's corresponding month, which was severely affected by the conflict.
At the same time, three-wheeler and commercial vehicle sales figure took a dive affecting the vehicle market.
According to a statement of FADA, Manipur recorded sales of 2,190 units in June this yeaf, a staggering 711.11 per cent increase compared to 270 units in June 2023 in the two-wheel-er'category.
In three-wheelers category, 14 units were sold, showing a decrease of 12.50 per cent from 16 units sold in June 2023.In terms of commercial vehicles, 39 units sold in June this year, marking a decline of 36.07 per cent from 61 units in the previous year.
On the other hand, 358 units of passenger vehicles were sold in June this year, showing a substantial rise of 61.99 per cent compared to 221 units in June 2023.There is no sales recorded for tractors, consistent with June 2023.The total vehicle sales in the state for June 2024 reached 2,601 units, showing an overall remarkable increase of 357.92 per cent from 568 units in June 2023.On a national scale, the vehicle retail data for June 2024 also presented a mixed picture.
Two-wheeler category recorded 4.66 per cent increase with the sales of 13,75,889 this month as compared to 13,14,628 units in June 2023.Three-wheelers category also reported an uptrend of 5.10 per cent by recording sales of 94,321 units in June 2024 against 89,743 units last year.
Commercial vehicles took a dive of 4.74 per cent with sales record of 72,747 units in June 2024 against 76,364 units last year.
At the same time, passenger vehicles also reported sales of 2,81,566 units in June 2024 presenting a decrease of 6.77 per cent from 3,02,000 units in June last year.
Similarly, tractor sales also reported a significant drop of 28.36 per cent with only 71,029 units sold this year against 99,148 units last year.
The overall vehicle sales in India for June 2024 totalled to 18,95,552 units, reflecting a modest growth of 0.73 per cent from 18,81,883 units in June 2023.Commenting on the performance, FADA Manipur state chairperson, Andy Mangsatabam expressed cautious optimism.
"The market has improved for the 2 wheeler and passenger vehicles segments in the month of June 2024 when compared with the same month of 2023.But, unfortunately, the market is still in the red.
This comparison does not reflect the actual market potential.
We can only hope for the market to improve further in the coming days" .
