Speaker directs 4 NPP MLAs to respond by Feb 11

The Speaker's Tribunal has admitted the disqualification petitions filed against four MLAs of National People's Party (NPP) accusing the latter of joining a meeting of ruling MLAs called by the chief minister and participating in government activities after withdrawing support from the BJP-led coalition government in the state.
It further notified the four MLAs to respond to the matter by February 11.Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice president Hareshwar Goswami had filed disqualification petitions against NPP MLAs Mayanglambam Rameshwar (Kakching), Irengbam Nalini (Oinam), Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong) and Th Shanti (Moirang) under the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution over their participation in the ruling MLAs' meeting called by the CM and in government activities, after their party (NPP) had withdrawn from support to the state government.
Admitting the cases, the Speaker's Tribunal on Wednesday notified the four MLAs to submit their responses to the Tribunal's office by February 11.It also fixed the date for proceedings of the case on February 12 around 9.30am.The notice issued by Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary K Meghajit also directed the respondents or their authorised advocate or counsel to be present for the proceedings.
Mention may be made here that the final hearing for the disqualification cases against five JD (U) MLAs will be held on Friday.
