HLTTA celebrates foundation day

The 91st foundation day of Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association (HLTTA), Manipur was held under the theme 'Culture, Sports, Tourism & Education' at Thang-Ta Shanglen, Yumnam Huidrom on Monday with Thang-Ta Federation of India former secretary Thounaojam Priyokumar Singh, HLTTA president Huidrom Premkumar Singh and Luwang Thang-Ta Academy secretary Nongthombam Noren Meetei as chief guest, president and guest of honour, respectively.
The event was also attended by instructors and students of various Thang-Ta institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, H Premkumar attributed conduct of Thang-Ta championships in state, national and international levels, inclusion as school syllabus, competitions in college level and incorporation of indigenous martial arts form in the Manipur University sports calendar to relentless efforts of past and present instructors.
Apart from recognition as a sport discipline under the Khelo India initiative of Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports with players receiving Rs 10,000 scholarship annually, Thang-Ta academies have been established in Manipur, Assam and Tripura under Khelo India with many more centres planned in other states, he informed,- while adding that HLTTA with an aim to promote Thang-Ta as an Olympic sport initiated establishment of Thang-Ta Federation of India, Asian Thang-Ta Federation, South Asian Thang-Ta Federation and World Thang-Ta Federation.
Premkumar also expressed that in case state government makes more efforts to get recognition from Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Thang-Ta would definitely gain popularity across the world.
