Ibomcha died of BP stroke: Koireng-led UNLF

The central committee of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) led by Koireng placed its side of the story to the people of Manipur more particularly public of Khangabok regarding the untimely demise of former ASD/SO of settlement department Thokchom Ibomcha of Khangabok Awang Leikai on June 28.According to a statement, the standing committee realised involvement of one cadre of the outfit in the 'unfortunate' demise of Ibomcha after the cadre shouldering special responsibility in the valley himself provided detailed information about the incident.
Citing report of the cadre, the oufit said that Thokchom Ibomcha had more than one wife and the unfortunate incident happened when the cadre along with some volunteers took up some action something based on a written complaint submitted by the son of Ibomcha's first wife.
The complaint said that Ibomcha married a Kuki woman as second wife and did not look after the son of his first wife for a long time.
After several years, Ibomcha called up his son and lived together with construction a house on the land allotted by Ibomcha.
Later, Ibomcha expelled his son from the house after the latter exhausted money taken from bank on loan for treatment of his daughter.
With no money for treatment of his daughter suffering from a disease since birth and no land to settle, son of Ibomcha's first wife approached the outfit and sought justice.
Additionally, the cadre familiar with Th Ibomcha since latter's posting in Moreh as AS & SO and suspended for allotting a land to AR, called up Ibomcha on June 18 for a better understanding on the bond between Ibomcha and his son.
During the talk between Ibomcha and his son, Ibomcha agreed to bear the entire cost of treatment of his grand-daughter and help his son financially in arrangement of land and settlement.
Ibomcha's son requested the cadre for keeping his father in its custody till the assured money is given too which Ibomcha agreed and stayed together as a family till June 28.Ibomcha was allowed to roam around and even use a mobile handset.
However, Ibomcha secretly informed one of his female friends about his whereabouts through the mobile phone and this led to an incident of light beating by those guarding the family.
There was no severe thrashing or torture of Ibomcha but he died of BP stroke owing to tension he developed on June 28 evening.
However, it was a big mistake that Ibomcha was put in the custody without assessing his age, health condition and without precautions, conceded the central committee's statement issued by M Sak-hen.
According to the statement, the cadre involved in the incident confessed to committing a big mistake by acting beyond responsibility of the Front.
Nevertheless, the central committee should shoulder all responsibilities when one of its cadres commits mistake and accordingly the outfit sincerely accepts the mistake, Sak-hen said.
At the time when the outfit was preparing to give a clarification to public about the incident, one of the electronic media reported that Ibomcha was shot dead and the clarification was delayed due to cross-checking of the contrasting reports, the statement said and expressed regret for delaying the clarification for some days.
Ibomcha was not killed nor shot as could be comprehended from no bullet mark found on his body, the outfit reasoned, while clarifying further that Ibomcha died of BP stroke.
The central committee also shared the pain and grief of Ibomcha's bereaved family.
