Imphal, August 02 2026: The Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) on Sunday conducted the 20th edition of its State-level Meetei Mayek Competition for students across different districts of Manipur.

The competition for students from Class 1 to 10 was held in 10 categories at 46 examination centres.

Around 13,000 students from various communities took part.

Speaking to the media, MEELAL president L Nongmailembi said the competition is organised annually to mark the day the State Government officially adopted Meetei Mayek.

She stressed that language and script are vital for the survival and progress of any community, and the contest aims to strengthen knowledge of Meetei Mayek among the younger generation.

She added that participation has increased this year.

Apart from Meetei students, Naga, Nepali and Meetei-Pangal students also took part in large numbers.

MEELAL secretary general Paonam Thakaba said winners will be felicitated during MEELAL's 23rd Foundation Day on August 18.He appealed to organisations to refrain from bandhs on that day.
