Thoubal, August 02 2025:
In response to government's inaction even after six days of protest demanding action against doctor and staff of District Hospital, Thoubal for medical negligence over the death of Maibam Samita after child birth.
JAC Against Killing of Khangembam Ningol Maibam Ongbi Samita of Tekcham has announced a 48-hour general strike from midnight of Sunday till midnight of August 5 in Thoubal district.
Addressing a press meet at Standard Library cum Youth Organisation (SLYO) office, Tekcham Mayai Leikai on Saturday, JAC's convener Soibam Jemson decried the government's disregard for their demands, stating there has been no response from officials.
As the authorities concerned have failed to address the matter promptly, the JAC has decided to call for the 48 hour strike in Thoubal district from Sunday midnight to August 5 midnight, he announced.
Mentioning that the death of Samita after few hours of her undergoing caesarean section operation is very unfortunate and reeks of medical negligence, he questioned why there has been no repercussion on the medical staff, who were on duty on the day of the incident.
Jemson further asserted that the government must take stringiest action against the doctor and nursing staff for medical negligence to ensure that such cases do not happen again.
Chipping in, JAC's chairperson Khundongbam Meratombi Leima appealed to the civil society organisations, clubs and public of Thoubal to support the general strike, while adding that the strike will exclude religious, medical and essential services.
It may be mentioned that the JAC has been demanding the authorities concerned to conduct an enquiry on the case within two days; to take action and terminate from service the doctor and nursing staff involved in the death of Samita; give appropriate compensation to the victim's family; government should take responsibility for the new born child of Samita and not to claim the body till all the demands are met.
