Imphal, April 30 2025:
Tamenglong district magistrate (DM) has imposed restriction under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) in the district headquarters with immediate effect while all schools under the jurisdiction of Tamenglong headquarters have been directed to close until further notice.
DM Dr L Angshim Dangshawa issued separate orders for restriction under BNSS prohibiting assembly of five or more persons and movement with arms or explosives within Tamenglong headquarters and the closure of schools.
Both the orders came into effect from Wednesday and will be effective until further orders.
Villagers of Old Tamenglong planned to take out a rally from Tamenglong village side towards Tamenglong headquarters on April 30 folloing the constitution of a commission regarding boundary dispute between Old Tamenglong villagers and Dailong village.
However, the Tamenglong DM imposed the restriction under BNSS after observing that there is a likelihood of arson, disturbance to normal daily life and potential breach of peace.
The restriction will be effective in the entire town of Tamenglong district headquarters and bordering areas between Dailong, Duigailong and Old Tamenglong villages.
In another order issued late Wednesday evening, DM Dr L Angshim Dangshawa directed heads of schools under the jurisdiction of Tamenglong headquarters to suspend conduct of classes with immediate effect until further notice.
The order also directed officials concerned to take up necessary actions without fail.
