Durga Sharma conferred Padma Devi award-2024

Imphal, December 31 2024:
The Padma Devi award for the year 2024 has been conferred to writer Durga Sharma of Gopibung, Kangpokpi district.
The award donated by late Shamurailatpam Gopal Sharma and his brothers was handed over to Durga Sharma in an event organised by Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal at JN Manipur Dance Academy, on Tuesday.
Apart from the Padma Devi Award-2024, other awards presented on the occasion included the Telem Ningol Atoibema Award-2024 donated by Lamabam Gojendra to Nongthonbam Bishwarjit Singh, Tayenjam Jayanta poetry award-2024 donated by Tayenjam Kamalini to Devdas Mairembam, Moirangthem Narendra gold medal-2024 donated by sons of Moirangthem Narendra to Kunjalal Yendrembam and Sanasam Ongbi Moirangthem Maipakpi Sahitya Mana-2024 donated by Jodhachandra Sanasam to Moirangthem Priyobrata.

Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha attended the event as chief guest while Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti president Naoroibam Indramani was the functional president.
In his address, MLA Ibomcha said writers guide a society to the right path and development and their sincerity and love for every community is worthy of imitation for all.
However, it is very unfortunate that Manipuri society has few writers despite having many educated people, he opined.
Before the awards ceremony, 'Birenna Katchaba Kabi Kirtan' (Wakama Hongba) event was held with the participation of 15 male and female writers.
The event was attended by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal president Longjam Jaychandra as chief guest, Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal president Naoroibam Indramani as president and Cultural Forum Manipur president professor Koijam Shantibala Devi as guest of honour.
