Imphal, August 30 2024:
The showroom and supply room of Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicraft Artisans' Co-operative Society Limited were locked along with the room of the chairman on Thursday, in protest against non-discussion of the agenda proposed by 15 candidates contesting the election for the Board of Directors (BoDs) of the Society to postpone the election in view of the Society and members affected by the recent floods.
As the election was held regardless of the request, eight of the 15 candidates along with members of allied societies locked the showroom of the Apex Handloom, raw material supply room and the chairman s room for 15 days on Thursday.
In this regard, one of the candidates Rk Anjali said that the election notification for the BoD was issued on June 27.However, with the government declaring holiday in view of the floods and most of the Society's members affected by the same, the eight candidates urged the registrar and authority concerned not to conduct the election.
Despite this, the election was held forcefully on a holiday and the new BoDs elected.
In this regard, a letter has been submitted to the registrar, she informed and urged for resolving the issue within 15 days.
Anjali continued that the remaining seven candidate appointed to the BoDs including the chairman, should not attempt to enter the office forcefully, while cautioning that anyone unlocking the offices will be solely responsible for any unwanted consequences.
She further urged for clearing the pending salaries of the staff in addition to the funds to be allocated to societies with regard to conduct of fairs.
Stating that the staffers of the handloom society are refusing to discharge duty under the pretext of not possessing utilisation certificate, Anjali suggested that such irresponsible and corrupt staff should tender resignation on their own will.
She said that the rights of the societies cannot be infringed upon and any such attempt will invite movement of all the societies in the state.
