Sirarakhong Hathei Phanit all set to begin today

The 13th Hathei Phanit (Chili Festival) of Sirarakhong village under Chingai block in Ukhrul district, is all set for a vibrant celebration on August 29 and 30, embracing the theme "Whoever Offers Praise Glorifies Me" .
This year's edition of the festival marks a return after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the last celebration held in 2019 .
The inaugural ceremony will have Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Transport minister Khashim Vashum as chief guest, while the valedictory function will be attended by Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah as the chief guest.
A highlight of the festival will be the presentation of the Geographical Indication (GI) Certificate for Sirarakhong Hathei, an indigenous chilli renowned for its exceptional taste and flavour.
Geographical Indications Registry's senior examiner Prashanth Kumar Bhairappanavar will present the prestigious certification during the festival.
Stalls will be opened from 2 pm to 4 pm on August 29 and from 8 am to 10 am on August 30 .
The festival will also feature a seminar on "Plant Pathology & Value Addition", moderated by Manipur University research scholar Yurringwon Zimik.
Additionally, attendees will be treated to the screening of a new Tangkhul feature film, "SHEEHAME" .
The festival is being organised by the Sirarakhong Hathei Promotion Committee (SHPC) under the aegis of Sirarakhong village.
