PRO compiles record of recovery of weapons, ammos

Imphal, January 28 2025: In a series of joint operations conducted based on intelligence inputs, Indian Army including Assam Rifles in coordination with Manipur police and other security forces recovered 35 weapons, ammunition and warlike stores from both hill and valley regions in the districts of Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Noney, Jiribam and Kakching.

According to PRO IGAR (S), on January 19, the Indian Army in coordination with Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched a joint operation in Lungkhongjang ridge, north of Bungte Chiru village in Bishnupur district, and recovered one modified sniper rifle, five 9 mm pistols, two single barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition and war like stores.

Similarly, on January 20, Indian Army launched another operation in collaboration with CRPF and Manipur police near the Khuga river and fringes of Dampi ridge located in border areas of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, recovering one 9mm sub machine gun, one each .303 rifle, pistol, single barrel breach loaded gun, country-made mortar and grenade launcher, grenades ammunition and war like stores.

In Tengnoupal district, on receipt of specific intelligence about infiltration attempts on January 20 along the Indo-Myanmar Border near Yangoupokpi, Assam Rifles laid ambushes, and apprehended a cadre who on questioning revealed affiliation with the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

Another operation launched by Assam Rifles in Maohing area under Noney district on January 20, also resulted in recovery of a 9mm country-made pistol, one .303 rifle, an improvised projectile launcher, grenades, ammunition and war like stores while on January 23, Assam Rifles and Manipur police recovered a country-made pistol, one single bore country-made rifle, ten No.36 hand grenades and war like stores during an operation conducted in Ngamukhong Phungi Ching (Leingangpokpi) area in Thoubal district.

According to the PRO, on the same day, Assam Rifles and Manipur police commando teams, launched operation in an area between Heirok and Wangjing in Thoubal district, which led to the arrest of two KCP (PWG) cadres along with two 9mm pistols, ammunition and war like stores.

In Jiribam district, a cordon and search operation launched by Assam Rifles and Manipur police in an area between Zairawn and Uchatol on January 23 resulted in recovery of one carbine, one single barrel gun, grenades and ammunition.

On January 24, one each 9mm pistol, locally made mortar (pompi), improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 1 kg, grenades, ammunition and war like stores were recovered during an operation carried out by the Assam Rifles in between Gamngai and Phe-ijang villages under Chandel district.

Another operation conducted on the same day in Potsangbam Khullen hill range in Imphal West district by Assam Rifles and Manipur police led to recovery of one each self-loading rifle, carbine machine gun and .32 calibre country-made pistol, two 51mm mortars, grenades and ammunition, maintained the PRO, adding that in Kakching district, Assam Rifles and Manipur police recovered one modified .303 sniper rifle, airgun rifle, grenades, ammunition and war like stores from Thangjao Mamang Ching on January 25.On the same day in Imphal West district, Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched a joint search operation in general area Sekmai (Tendongyan) and recovered one .303 rifle, one 9mm pistol, one .32 calibre pistol, hand grenades and ammunition.

The PRO further informed that the apprehended individuals along with the recovered weapons and other items have been handed over to Manipur police.
