Army, AR pay tributes to Kargil War heroes

Imphal, July 26 2024:
The Indian Army celebrated the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Di-was, known as Rajat Jayanti, with events across Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, and Manipur from July 20 to July 26 to honour the bravery and sacrifice of Kargil heroes and foster national pride in the North-Eastern states.
According to a statement issued by PRO, Defence, In Manipur, GOC Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya led a tribute event at the War Memorial in Leimakhong Military Station.
Activities included tree plantation, display of army equipment, Army band performance, and various competitions.
Football tournaments were held in Moirang, Bishnupur, and interactions with war veterans took place in Senapati and Phougakchao.
Nagaland featured a wreath-laying ceremony at Zakhama Military Station on Friday, followed by veteran felicitations, Upper Assam celebrated with 'A Day with Company Commander' events at army camps on July 20, including flag hoisting, team games, and patriotic movie screening.
Tributes were also paid to the parents of Kargil War Hero Captain Jintu Gogoi.
In Agartala, a ceremony on July 20 honoured 12 Veer Naaris and Veer Matas.
The celebrations included a movie screening, inspiring lectures, and concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at Albert Ekka Park on July 26 .
These events by the Indian Army highlighted its legacy of courage and dedication, fostering national pride across the North-Eastern states, the statement added.
Assam Rifles also observed the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas in various districts to honour the valour and sacrifice of brave Indian soldiers, on Friday.
In Imphal East and West districts, events such as flag hoisting, speeches, documentaries, interactive sessions, and patriotic performances were held at Thambal Marik College, ARPS Keithelmanbi and Mantripukhri, Vocational Guide School, and Mantripukhri Shopping Complex.
Sanjeevani's Skill Development Program also commemorated the day with a video projection and discussions, fostering a sense of patriotism and unity among participants.
In Churachandpur, special programmes were held for school students, Agniveer, and SSC aspirants in Kangvai and other villages.
Events included interactive sessions, wreath-laying at Khuga and Thinghat villages, and screenings of Kargil War documentaries.
Participants, including children from Grace Orphanage Home and Hill Model School, engaged in activities honouring the Kargil heroes, culminating in a pledge to uphold the values of courage, unity, and national pride.
In Ukhrul district, Assam Rifles organised the Kargil Vijay Diwas at Shangshak village commemorating the Indian Armed Forces' victory in the 1999 Kargil War.
53 students and six teachers from Assam Rifles Public School took part in the event.
Activities included a brief address on the Kargil War, a painting competition themed "Kargil Vijay Diwas," a patriotic song competition, and a screening of the movie "LOC Kargil" .
The Kargil Vijay Diwas in Chandel district was organised to foster patriotism and engage the youth of Gamphazol, Phaisanjang and Changpol villages wherein weapon display at Gamphazol, an essay writing competition in Changpol, and a drawing competition in Phaisanjang participated by 163 children were organised.
In Tengnoupal district, Assam Rifles commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas with a documentary screening and motivational lecture at its Moreh camp along with a lecture and a documentary on the heroic deeds and sacrifices of soldiers during the Kargil War, followed by refreshments.
A total of 31 students from Moreh and neighbouring villages attended the event.
Assam Rifles also commemorated the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas at Apollo ground in Tamenglong district on Friday.
An exhibition and a documentary screen -ing on Kargil war were main highlights of the commemoration.
The exhibition was a collation of significant events of the Kargil war in a chronological order with rare images and illustrations.
The documentary revisited the events and bravehearts of the Kargil war.
Over 500 students from seven schools across Tamenglong district participated in the event and were instilled with pride by the unconditional sacrifices of the soldiers on the front lines.
The event was a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the bravehearts and a celebration of their valour, serving as a unifying movement of national pride and gratitude.
These events provided hands-on experiences, encouraged reflections on soldiers' sacrifices, and offered creative platforms to express patriotism, instilling respect and national pride among the youth while remembering the Kargil heroes.
