Workshop on 'Women Empowerment' held

Though there is notable presence of women in almost every sector, there is still the need for women representatives in the decision making processes so as to realise the true meaning of women's empowerment, opined Centre for Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI), Manipur University director professor H Sudhirkumar.
A one-day consultative workshop on 'Women Empowerment and Social Inclusion' was jointly organised by CSSI, MU and IQAC, Maharaja Bodhchandra College at the latter's Palace Compound campus on Wednesday.
In his address, Prof Sudhirkumar said that for a society to progress, both the men and women need be on level term without which it would impossible for a society to progress.
He noted that although provisions for reservation for women and various other acts have been introduced, the need for more representation of women in the decision making process cannot be ignored.
The professor then appealed to all concerned to provide prominent space to female teachers as and when programmes related to women empowerment are conducted.
Presided over by College principal Dr Bhabananda Singh, the workshop was attended by vice principal L Dwijendra Singh as guest of honour.
During the technical session chaired by CSSI MU associate professor Dr Th Bharat, DM College of Commerce Management Studies head Dr Chithung Mary Thomas spoke on the topic "Gender and Development"; DM College of Arts English Department (UG) head Dr Dhanamanjuri Lourembam on "The Power of Narrative and Voice to Dismantle Gender Stereotypes"; and Imphal College IQAC coordinator Dr Lakshmi Elangbam on "Patriarchy and Gender Gap in Manipur" .
