DESAM fumes over use of mobile phones in exam

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has exerted pressure on government authorities to take action against teachers of Biramangol College, Sawombung for allowing students to carry mobile phones in the examination hall during the ongoing college exams.
Addressing media persons at its Kwakeithel office, here, on Wednesday, DESAM secretary general Nongthombam Thoithoi stated that as college education system in Manipur has not been up to the mark, consultative meetings were initiated by Manipur University in the past with experts and teachers during which decisions were taken to interchange exam centres for college examinations.
Amid efforts to stream line and enhance standard of college education, there were reports of irregularities in the ongoing exams at Biramangol College, which began on June 24.On the day of the English exam for first semester, all students in examination hall number 105 were allowed to use mobile phones.

This incident is highly regrettable and both the state government and Manipur University authorities should be held accountable, he said.
Thoithoi also stated that the state government should promptly investigate the matter and ensure that action is taken through the MU controller of examinations against the principal and two vice principals of Biramangol College, as well as the officer in-charge (OC), assistant officer in-charge (AOC), supervisor of invigilators (SI) (four in total) and two invigilators who failed to perform their duties.
He further suggested that these teachers should resign voluntarily.
