Imphal, November 25 2024:
Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has dedicated nearly Rs 2 lakh, contributed by residents of his constituency, to assist displaced families in relief camps.
The donation was raised by the people of Thangmeiband following a mob attack on the MLA's residence on November 16, which resulted in extensive damage to his properties and looting of relief materials meant for displaced families.
The funds were handed over to the MLA in a function organised by Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) at the multipurpose hall near Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba on Monday.
Members of TAKDO, local clubs, organisations, and supporters contributed to the initiative.
While expressing gratitude, MLA Joykisan accepted only Rs 3,000 to repair the altar of Lainingthou Sanamahi, which was damaged during the attack.
He redirected the remaining amount to assist displaced people, highlighting the urgent need for support in relief camps.
Speaking at the event, TAKDO Tribal Forum advisor Makenpao Panmei condemned the mob's actions, which included vandalising and looting the MLA's personal property as well as relief materials.
He appealed to all concerned to abstain from such destructive activities in the future.
Recounting the incident, MLA Joykisan said he was out of station for his son's treatment when the mob attacked his residence.
Despite instructing his security personnel to avoid using force and attempting to communicate with the mob, the situation escalated.
The looted items included bags of onions and potatoes intended for families in relief camps under his care.
The mob also vandalised altars and religious objects, an act he described as deeply unfortunate.
The MLA reaffirmed his commitment to supporting those affected by the ongoing crisis and thanked the people of Thangmeiband for their solidarity and contributions.
