Imphal, June 25 2024:
In a move aimed at curbing drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Churachandpur district magistrate Dharun Kumar S has issued an order mandating installation of CCTV cameras in medical and pharmacy shops selling Schedule H and X drugs.
The order is said to be in line with the Joint Action Plan on "Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking, '' framed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) .
The directive requires all medical and pharmacy shops in the district to install CCTV cameras both inside and outside their premises within one month from issuance of the order.
Footage from these CCTV cameras will be subject to random inspections by the District Drug Controller Authority and the Child Welfare Police Officer to enhance monitoring and ensure that the sale of these controlled drugs is strictly regulated.
Failure to comply with the order will result in appropriate action against the non-compliant shop owners.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Executive Magistrates, with the assistance of the police and drugs inspector, shall execute the order within their jurisdictions and submit compliance reports, the order added.
