Imphal, May 25 2024:
The three-day long KIMACS Inter School Thang-Ta Competition organised by Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) culminated at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak, here on Saturday.
Speaking as chief guest of the valedictory function, Manipur University of Culture (MUC) VC Prof Paonam Gunindro recounted that KIMACS along with many teachers and gurus worked together to see to the inclusion of Thang-Ta in the syllabi of BSEM and CoHSEM in 2013 .
He continued that the value system of Thang-Ta is important, being interlinked with decorum, customs and traditions of the state, all of which need to be taught to students.
Stressing the need for more Thang-Ta teachers, he remarked that lack of the same in government schools has compelled the Thang-ta organisations/bodies to go to schools for teaching Thang-Ta to students without taking any money.
There is the need to preserve Thang-Ta which has a high and spiritual value, he contended.
Regarding the competition, Gunindro encouraged the students to participate in more competitions as it will not only increase their interest and knowledge, but also help them walk through life successfully.
In his speech, KIMACS general secretary RK Leninsana observed that disunited thoughts are slowly dividing the state.
If all work together under one command, a huge change would be witnessed in the state, he remarked.
Presided over by KIMACS president Ningthoujam Ajitkumar, the valedictory function was also attended by CoHSEM secretary Khundrakpam Ashikumar and social activist S Tending Meitei as guests of honour.
