ZUF rings out peace, freedom message

Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) observed its 15th Raising Day on Tuesday, at its Mount Ararat headquarters under the theme "Defending Freedom, Pursuing Peace".
The celebration began with hoisting of the Front's flag and the traditional chant of 'Hozam', symbolising the enduring hope and aspiration of the Zeliangrong people for their long-cherished freedom, informed a statement of the Front.
Attending the event as chief guest, ZUF home secretary Felix Kamei urged the Zeliangrong community to remain hopeful, assuring them that the ongoing political talks with the Government of India (GOI) is making steady progress toward a final settlement.
Even then, he called on the government to expedite the process, cautioning that further delays could lead to unrest and deepen the conflict situation in the region.
He emphasised that the Zeliangrong issue deserved priority treatment, distinct from other ongoing negotiations, in recognition of its unique significance.
On the occasion, the ZUF conveyed a message of hope, urging the people to continue supporting its political agenda, which is currently under discussion with the GOI for a final resolution.
Meanwhile, valuing the sacrifices made by the Zeliangrong people since the front's formation in 2011, ZUF chairman Jenchui Kamei, in his message to the public, highlighted the "bravery and patriotism that marked their 15-year struggle for self-determination" .
Jenchui Kamei reaffirmed that the Zeliangrong political issues are now on the verge of settlement, with the fifth round of talks held under the banner of the Zeliangrong Statehood Working Committee showing promising progress.
He also extended a message of forgiveness to those who may have acted against the cause due to circumstantial pressures, emphasising unity and reconciliation for the greater good.
The chairman expressed gratitude for the continued support of the Zeliangrong people, and urged them to remain hopeful as the movement approaches its goal of achieving freedom and peace for their homeland.
