CM flags off National Games contingent, distributes prosthetics devices

Chief Minister N Biren Singh extended his best wishes to all the athletes from Manipur, who are participating in the 38th National games and motivated them to bring laurels for the state.
He was attending the blessing ceremony of Manipur State Contingent participating in the 38th National Games, 2025, Uttarakhand, held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Saturday.
The ceremony was organised jointly by Manipur Olympics Association (MOA) and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS).
Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren expressed pride on learning that a large number of athletes are representing the state in the game.
The unprecedented crisis in the state might have caused trouble to the players in following their routines.
However, one can achieve real success only after overcoming all the hurdles of life, he stated.
The CM maintained that the state has been known globally for its contributions in the field of sports and art and culture.
He continued that so far, the state has produced 19 Olympians and the government had constructed Manipur Olympian Park at Sangaithel, honouring the contributions of sportspersons, to further encourage the players of the state.
Biren then informed that the government, in its recent cabinet meeting held at Tamenglong had, in-principle, taken a decision to provide government jobs to gold medal winners of National Games.
He further maintained that the government had always been developing sports' infrastructure and acquiring modern equipment according to the needs, informing that upgrading work of the velodrome with a cost of Rs 7 crore is going on.
The CM stated that for a sportsper-son to achieve success in their career, maintaining discipline and hard work must be the utmost priority.
He advised players never to feel dejected.
He also stated that there should be no room for biases in the selection process in the field of games and sports, adding that it would lower the spirit of young players.
It may be mentioned that around 400 athletes from the state are participating in 19 disciplines in the upcoming National Games, while 76 officials of the Manipur Olympics Association will be accompanying the players.
The programme was attended by forest minister Thongam Biswajit, social welfare minister Heikham Dingo, education minister Th Basanta Kumar, transport minister Khashim Vashum, Lamlai MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, officials of MOA and athletes among others.
On the other hand, the also distributed advanced prosthetic devices including state-of-the-art myoelectric hands and motorised wheelchairs, for persons with Disabilities (PwDs) at the CM's Secretariat here on Saturday.
The programme was organised by State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) in collaboration with Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Manipur.
Addressing the function,'the CM stated that after the formation of BJP-led government in 2017, the government has been launching various schemes to aid the marginalised section of the society and to assist PwDs.
He spoke on schemes including Chief Minister-gi Hakselgi Tengbang (CMHT), Chief Minister-gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang (CMST) and School Eagathansi Mission among others.
Biren added that under CMST scheme, a sum of Rs 1500 each has been provided to around 9000 PwDs as assistance.
He maintained that the government had been working continuously for the welfare of its people and would consistently put all efforts to help meet the needs of the people.
The government has been extending assistance PwDs and would continue to support, he added.
As a human being, we must respect and treat every human equally without being biased, he stated.
The CM instructed the director and other officials of social welfare department present at the function to provide further assistance to PwDs, making them economically viable and able to earn for their living.
During the programme, two motorised wheelchairs and five myoelectric hands were distributed to the PwDs.
The programme was attended by social welfare minister Heikham Dingo, veterinary minister Khashim Vashum, Lamlai MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha and other officials among others.
