Imphal, November 24 2024:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has assured the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur state branch that he will provide five ambulances to support their humanitarian efforts.
The assurance came after a request from the IRCS, Manipur state branch, an international humanitarian organisation.
Dr Bimol visited the IRCS office and met with its functionaries to discuss the society's role in supporting the community, especially in light of crisis in the state.
During the meeting, IRCS Manipur chairman Narendra Ningomba, highlighted shortage of ambulances amid ongoing challenges in the state, including increasing road accidents and other emergencies.
He stressed that having ambulances stationed in strategic locations of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts would significantly improve the society's ability to assist the public.
He further requested that the ambulances be provided as a gift to the IRCS in time for the upcoming New Year.
Dr Bimol Akoijam, while acknowledging the role of IRCS as a voluntary humanitarian organisation, commended its exceptional work in the conflict-ridden state of Manipur.
He stressed that, despite the presence of numerous civil society organisations in the state, the IRCS stands out as the only one that operates across community lines, delivering humanitarian services without boundaries.
He also pointed out that while other state governments are providing assistance to the IRCS, the organisation has unfortunately not received any support from the government of Manipur.
Reflecting on his personal experiences growing up in a conflict zone, Dr Bimol Akoijam committed to extending all possible assistance to the IRCS, stating that he would do everything in his capacity to support the organisation in its humanitarian efforts.
