Glimmer of hope for Tamenglong roads

Tamenglong, June 23 2015 : With the arrival of monsoon in India all roads in Tamenglong district are worsened as no one cares for roads in the district.

All vehicle movements in the shortest route from Tamenglong to Imphal through Bhalok road have stopped plying due to deplorable road condition.

All town ring roads and Tamenglong- Khongsang road also became horrible.

These have become fishing ponds interspersed with potholes in every twenty metres.

Interestingly, the toothless district administration watched silently.

Auto rickshaw Association Tamenglong has been repairing the town ring roads twice every year.

In the meantime, Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong district on Tuesday said that the general public are suffering from several problems due to the pathetic condition of Tamenglong- Khongsang road which has been declared as NH- 137 by MORTH.

The press statement issued by Rajanglung, information secretary of the forum said that Tamenglong- Khongsang road has been handed over to BRO on 5th September 2012 by the State PWD.

However, the authority has not taken up steps to execute the development project in time on the pretext of waiting for Detail Project Report (DPR).

Adipou Joint Secretary Land Ownership Action Committee and Athanbou Pamei, President of Village Authority Chairmen Council (VACC) Tamenglong personally went to the Head office of Pushpak Aizwal 765 BRTF and gave pressure to expedite the official works.

The statement also warned that the Tamenglong- Khongsang road should be maintained only by BRFT and no any other work agency or company should be allowed to execute the works.

Adding that the joint forum and frontal organizations of Tamenglong will not compromise and will fight tooth and nails, the statement warned.

While appealing to the BRDB to include works programme of road construction from Tamenglong to Longdi Pabram road and to extend up to Tenning road of Nagaland, the statement said that it will be the life line of the adjoining villages.

The joint forum and frontal organizations of Tamenglong district also endorsed the 83 RCC (GREF) C/o 99 APO under 765 BRTF to execute the construction works of Tamenglong- Khongsang.

He went on to say that Tamenglong to Longdi Pabram would be 29 km and Longdi Pabram to Tenning would be 26 km, altogether 55 km distance between Tamenglong to Longdi Pabram via Tenning in Nagaland.

"On our request the Detail Project Report has been started moving from Pushpak Aizwal 765 BRTF to Director General of Border Road Organization and it will soon reach the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH).

Then they will start working", informed Athanbou Pamei.

He also appeals to the general public of Tamenglong to give full cooperation so that the BRTF could fully work for the welfare of the people.
