GoI prolonging Kuki-Meetei conflict: Oken
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, April 23 2025: The proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) extended revolutionary greetings to the entire people of Kangleipak (Manipur) and WESEA region on the occasion of 31st Raising Day of the Lup, which falls on April 25 .

The KYKL also extended revolutionary greetings to students, farmers, labourers, revolutionary groups, CSOs, public leaders, intellectuals, teachers and media persons of Kangleipak (Manipur) and WESEA region on the occasion.

Praying for return of those languishing in government facilities, schools and colleges, community halls, clubs and other public facilities for 24 months to their ancestral homes, the organisation wished them a new beginning and a prosperous life.

On the occasion, KYKL chairman N Oken also conveyed a message to the people of Kangleipak and WESEA region on behalf of the organisation, sharing his thoughts on the fate of the people and revolutionary struggle of Kangleipak and WESEA region for discussion and deliberation among the public.

In his message, N Oken reminded that over 260 people have lost their lives, while more than 70,000 are unable to return to their home amid the ongoing ethnic conflict.

With the conflict persisting for nearly two years, more than 12 people have taken the extreme step of ending own lives, and 35 have gone missing, while the number of injured remains incalculable, he lamented, while pointing out that the role of the Government of India in the ongoing conflict appears perplexing, as people and intellectuals struggle to identify the root causes.

None of the Government of India's measures to resolve the conflict are coherent, and their approaches remain contradictory and illogical.

Moreover, statements made by Indian leaders regarding the conflict are often inconsistent with their actions and invariably exhibit double standards, Oken observed.

According to the chairman; statements made by top Indian leaders on resolving the conflict change every five/six months and their inconsistent remarks often fuel public confusion, with top leaders of Indian security forces too lacking coordination and always making contradictory remarks.

Many of those closely observing the Kuki-Meetei conflict could have understood the reasons behind the incoherent, contradictory, and illogical remarks from Indian leaders, but they find it challenging as discussions continue without any definitive outcome, he rued.

Continuing his message, Oken said that events unfolding in Kangleipak (Manipur) are outcome of larger coordinated strategy and not isolated incidents.

He contended that some unseen mastermind are orchestrating the situation from behind the scenes, while the Government of India continues to employ misleading and contradictory approaches in the name of restoring peace.

While charging the Government of India of not making genuine efforts to address the situation, the KYKL chairman cited incidents of torching of villages and uncheck flow of arms from across the border despite heavy deployment of security personnel.

He alleged that it was the Government of India who orchestrated the Kuki-Meetei conflict, prolonging it and even failing to act when the Kukis attacked the Meetei even as their forces sided with one of the warring communities.

When bullets rained from the hills towards the valley, Indian security forces conducted combing operation in the area where the bullets fell instead of tracking those who opened fire.

These actions reflect a deeper strategic agenda instead of making peace-building efforts, Oken continued in his message.

To be Contd .
