Three Jiribam cases handed over to NIA: Kuldiep

The state government has handed over three cases related to the recent violent incidents in Jiribam district to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the investigation underway, said security advisor Kuldiep Singh.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of Old Secretariat, Babupara on Friday, Kuldiep informed that a security review meeting was held, which was attended by top officials of army, police, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP and district administration with regard to the prevailing situation in Imphal and all districts of the state.
The meeting also discussed the issues of each district, he said, and added that efforts would be made to resolve the same.
Regarding steps taken to protect the life and property of the citizens, the security advisor informed that additional 90 companies have started arriving in the state, after requests for the same.
So far, a total of 198 companies of central forces are already deployed in vulnerable areas to protect the life and property of the citizens.
The apparatus of the joint control room are now functional, and standard operating procedures framed for coordination between central forces.
On suspected involvement of 'SoO' groups in the attack in Jiribam, Kuldiep stated that armed militants attacked a CRPF camp in the area, which left 10 Kuki dead.
As such, if the investigation establishes involvement of SoO' militants then requisite action would be taken up.
Responding to queries on whether the CM attended the security review meeting, Kuldiep said that it is not mandatory for the CM to be present, as only the recommendations are to be submitted to him.
He then informed that around 32 people have been booked for vandalising houses of some MLAs in the valley.
Furthermore, 3,000 arms and ammunition have been recovered during search operations carried out in the valley and hills districts, while the total death count stands at 258, he elaborated.
