Imphal, August 22 2024:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) launched a protest rally demanding investigation by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the Modi-Adani Mega Scam and the removal of SEBI chairperson.
The rally participants stormed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Sangakpham, on Thursday.
During the protest which was part of the nationwide agitation launched by Congress workers, the agitators including Congress leaders and workers held placards which read "Investigate Modi-Adani Mega Scam", "Why is PM Modi Protecting SEBI chairperson", "Remove SEBI Chairperson", "What is the relationship between PM Modi and Adani" and also shouted slogans.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, MPCC president K Meghachandra alleged that the Modi government, in conjunction with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has siphoned off Rs 20,000 crore of public funds.
He highlighted that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has been calling for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the scandal.
Meghachandra also noted the rising unemployment rate across the country, attributing it to the corruption perpetuated by the Modi government, which he claims has exacerbated joblessness across the country, including Manipur.
He accused the Modi administration of turning governance into a business venture by misappropriating public money.
CLP leader O Ibobi Singh, who was also present at the protest, pointed out the need for the scam to be probed by JPC despite the Supreme Court's directive for the CBI to handle the case.
