Imphal, December 21 2024:
CLP leader and former chief minister Okram Ibobi has criticised the BJP-led government in the state foir flouting legislative protocols, pointing out that the latter has failed to conduct three sessions of the state legislative assembly a year.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, Ibobi said that the BJP government in the state has no regard for the Constitution.
"Rule 17A of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business of the Manipur Legislative Assembly mandates that a democratically-elected government should conduct at least three sessions of the state assembly in a year," he said, adding that the sessions are traditionally categorised as Budget, Monsoon and Winter sessions.
According to the former chief minister, winter sessions are generally conducted in November and December but the current government has not taken up any visible steps for convening the winter session.
He revealed that Congress has submitted memorandums to the Governor and the Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker to convene the winter session.
"Even now, there is provision to convene the winter session by issuing short notice," he added.
