Imphal, March 21 2025: The 12th Thang-Ta festival organised by Goodwill Foundation for Culture under the aegis of CFPGS, Ministry of Culture, was held on Friday at Irilbung High School, Imphal East district.

Speaking as chief guest of the festival, Huyen Lalong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association president and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Guru K Sanathoi Sharma informed that the festival organised under the directives of the Ministry of Culture, is aimed at extending support to students in exploring and displaying their latent talent in the martial arts form.

Highlighting the importance of imparting Thang-Ta lesson to the youngsters, he noted that the Manipuri traditional martial arts form helps in infusing good character and benefits individuals in various aspects of life.

He also noted that those well-versed in Thang-Ta develop a strong sense of nationalism and strive for betterment of his/her motherland.

Guru Sanathoi also recalled that in the past, people defended their homeland using only the skills of Thang-Ta, and stressed the need to preserve, promote and further develop this traditional martial art.

Delivering the keynote address, Goodwill Foundation secretary Th Joykumar stated that the festival has been organised as per the guidance of the Ministry of Culture to preserve and promote various art forms, including Thang-Ta, which is deeply intertwined with the history of Manipur.

Presided over by Foundation president Th Bhubol, the function was also attended by Irilbung High School head master Nongthombam Nilakumar as guest of honour.
