KLA/KLO observes Reformation Day

Imphal, December 20 2011: The KLA/KLO observed its 12th Reformation Day at Gamnom Camp, Saikul on December 17 last.

Talking about the observation to media persons, L Timuthy Kuki, General Secretary, KLA/KLO said that the areas which once belonged to the Kukis were divided among India, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Manipur after the British left, since there were no right leaders of the Kuki community at that time.

After India got Independence from the British Rule, Manipur was also merged into the Indian Union in 1949.The then Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave away Kangmongphei (Kabow Velley) to Myanmar.

Since then the issue of Kukis living as minorities everywhere came up, he said. He further informed that the Kuki Revolutionary Organisation was formed in 1988 by some Kuki leaders who had revolutionary ideas and were determined to safeguard the territory of the Kukis.

Later after the Naga-Kuki clashes, the armed wing of KLA/KLO, with 150 cadres was formed in 1994 under the Chief in Command of TL Kuki.

The party disintegrated and in 1999 it was newly formed again.

He also pointed out the aim and object of the KLA/KLO on its Reformation Day, and said that the party does not aim to create a new Homeland of its own or start a movement by demanding land from others, it rather aims at safeguarding the properties of the Kukis as saved by their forefathers and to develop the education and economic condition of the people and also to bring about the type of civilization which is in tune with the globalization process.

The Reformation Day observation was graced by M David Hangching, Chairman, RGOK/KRA and L Zacob Kuki, President, KLO/KLA as the Chief Guest and President respectively, he added.
