NH-37 functioning smoothly: Kuldiep

Imphal, May 20 2023: Security advisor Kuld-iep Singh has informed that till date 2,326 FIRS have been registered and 30 persons ar-rested in connection with the violence in the state.

Briefing media persons at the Chief Minister's Secre-tariat on Saturday, Kuldiep Singh said there is smooth movement of vehicles car-tying essential items on NH 37 and assured deployment of additional security along NH 2 also for movement of stranded vehicles.

While informing that the number of deaths is 73 with 41 confirmed to be related with the present violence, he also put the number of injured persons at 243, arson cases at 1,820 and seven missing cases.

Informing that situation is normal in majority of the districts, he said out of the 1,070 arms snatched from security forces, 488 have been recovered so far with Imphal West police recovering 186 rounds of ammunition on Friday.

On the same day, 10 kg of explosives and 2000 detonators of BIPL have been taken in the custody of AR at Bongbal Khullen, Kangpokpi and Imphal East fringe area as Imphal East district police recovered 20 arms including nine carbines, eight Insas rifles, one each of Excalibur rifle, .303 rifles and AK rifle from Baruni foothill.

Around 12 noon, one Pao Raju Kipgen (28), son of Satkhao Kipgen of Tuiphai village, Churachandpur was apprehended along with one 9mm Browning pistol, two magazines and 16 live rounds by C/27 CRPF during frisking and checking at Waikhurok under Churachandpur police station, he conveyed.

The security advisor also assured that deployment of Army/AR/CAPF/local po-lice is effectively been done with more deployment in the fringe areas.

A total of 64 companies of CAPF are also deployed while flag march and area domination exercises are being carried out widely, he added.

Kuldiep also stated that on Saturday, 237 loaded trucks including 17 petrol & 26 die-sel carriers, 28 LPG tankers, two empty trucks and others have left Jiribam at about 8 am for Imphal, while 68 empty trucks are stationed at Kei-thelmanbi gate, Imphal West for movement to Jiribam.

On the other hand, 131 loaded trucks are still stranded at Senapati district.

In Churachandpur, Young Paite Association (YPA) & Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) rescued two persons each and handed them over to the security forces for safe passage to their families on Friday.

Similarly, a team Imphal Westpolice rescued one person from the mis-creants in Paona Bazar and handed the person over to the Army on Friday, he said.

The security advisor also informed that AR and CAPF shifted 1173 stranded persons from Kangpokpi to Chura-chandpur on May 18, while 454 persons from Chura-chandpur were escorted to Kangpokpi on Friday and on Saturday, 54 persons from Keithelmanbi were shifted to Kangpokpi.

Surprise checking of SoO camps is being conducted and the presence of cadres is found increasing along with arms and ammunition, he stressed.

Kuldiep further pointed out that 42,280 persons are staying in 250 relief camps in parts of Imphal West (eight camps-734 persons), Imphal East (55 camps-10,975 per-sons), Thoubal (12 camps-951 persons), Bishnupur (54 camps-8132 persons), Chu-rachanctur (41 camps-11,455 persons , Tengnoupal (eight camps-1,243 persons), Ka-kching (one camp-145 persons), liribam (four camps-117 persons), Rang-pokpi (57 camps-8,000 per-sons), Ukhrul (one camp-38 persons), Senapati (one camp-22 persons) and Kamjong (eight camps-468 persons).

He also appealed to all to refrain from spreading rumours, make all possible efforts to maintain peace and harmony in the state and also to extend help in rescuing people in risk.
