CHRISTMAS SHOPPINGS have been disrupting for large number of villagers who depend the National Highway 39 to come to the state capital Imphal following the indefinite bandh called by a group in protest against the killing of one M Rajen of Sekmai Khunou on December 12 .
The bandh has also created immense inconveniences for the students and other Manipuris staying outside the state coming homes for the Christmas.
.MRajen (40) was reportedly killed by two unknown gunmen who had come to discuss a matter to his house on December 12 at Sekmai Khunou.
The Joint Action Comittee (JAC) formed in this connection had given ultimatum to the state government to produce and book the assailants by December 17 but failure from the part of the authority concerned had prompted the JAC to impose indefinite bandh along the NH-39 passing through Sekmai since December 18 .
Numerous vehicles passing the Sekmai area along the national highway have been pelted with stones by the bandh suporters thereby incurring damages to the vehicles.
Security forces personnel however, tried their best to foil the move of the bandh supporters by escorting to and fro the transporters passing through Sekmai area since yesterday.
Besides the pelting of stones, the bandh supporters resorted to burning of tyres and spilling lubricants on the road at different parts of Sekmai on Friday.
Bandh supporters mostly women folks turned up at various parts of Sekmai area along the National Highway 39 today and attempted to stop vehicular movements by using various means.
However, their attempts were foiled by the police.
Meanwhile, president of the JAC, Shanti, informed that there will be no let up with their agitation until the JAC demands to book the culprits involved in Rajens' killing, is materialised.
