Ambassadors assure support to export of horticulture products

Different ambassadors and high commissioners of India, during their state visit assured of their support in exporting well processed and packaged organic horticultural products of Manipur to different countries in order to improve the state's economy.
Indian ambassadors and high commissioners Manor Kumar Bharati (Indonesia), Nguikham Jathom Gangte (Tunisia), YK Sailash Thangal (Republic of Ivory Coast), Rahul Srivastava (Romania), Robert Setkintong (Ethiopia) and R Mashashi (Jamaica), who arrived here on Sunday, visited the Directorate of Horticulture near Sanjenthong and witnessed the organic products, handloom products, products produced in different districts under One District One Product programme.
They also visited the organic outlet, where processed organic foods are sold to the public.
Later, they had an interaction session with additional secretary (horticulture and soil conservation) P Vaiphei, DC Imphal East Kh Diana and horticulture & soil conservation director Honey Chara at the conference hallof the directorate's office.
Four out of the six ambassadors and high commissioners are born and brought up in Manipur.
YK Sailash Thangal expressed his view that well processed and packaged quality products can attract customers to the organic products of the state.
It will add value to these products and can be priced at premium rate, he said and expressed confidence that it will help in improving the socio-economy of the farmers and entrepreneurs of the state.
He further said that the local liquor can earn huge income through export.
China is also exporting similar types of liquor with proper bottling and branding.
The traditional liquor of China is not better than the local liquor of Manipur.
Bamboo and water reed (Kouna) packaging of liquor has been able to draw attention from many.
As such, exporting local liquor through such packaging could boost economy of the state, he said.
The directorate officials presented organic products and Leirum stoles to the visiting ambassadors and high commissioners.
