Imphal, January 17 2025:
A meeting was held at the chief minister's secretariat in connection with the death of Md Shahnawas of Kairang Tera Makhong.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the 'JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Shahnawaj', special secretary to chief minister and Imphal East SP.
During the meeting, it was agreed that an investigation into the killing of Shahnawas would be conducted, and charge sheet filed within three months.
It was also decided that effective measures would be initiated to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future, including actions against the presence and activities of anti-social elements.
Additionally, it was agreed that stern action would be initiated against individuals who spread misinformation or hate speech on social media, which could foster division among different communities.
A meeting of civil society organisations (CSOs) and the state government would be held soon to promote peace and harmony among communities.
The state government also committed to extending necessary assistance to the victim's family.
Meanwhile, Imphal East SP K Meghachandra has appealed to all concerned not to post anything on social media that could incite hatred between communities and warned that legal action will be processed against anyone posting hate speech.
In a video message, the police officer cautioned that certain individuals and organisations are rounding up people for moral policing amid the on-going unrest situation in the state.
Such actions, he noted, could lead to misunderstandings and escalate tensions between communities.
Legal action will be initiated against any group or individual involved in such activities, he warned and urged CSOs, public and individuals to support and cooperate in the government's efforts to restore peace in the state.
