Imphal, September 15 2026: North East Peoples Organisation, Manipur Chapter today held a condolence meeting at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul over the demise of former president of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU), Saikhom Kamlakanta.

Former auditor general of All Manipur Students Coordinating Committee K Saratkumar, former presidents of AMSU M Abhiram, Prof N Mohilal and former general secretary K Chingkham were presidium members.

Floral tributes were paid and two-minute silence observed for peace of the departed soul.

Speakers said late Kamlakanta played a major role in uplifting Manipuri society, particularly in promoting art, culture and language and uniting Meiteis settled in Assam's Barak Valley.

Meanwhile, All Manipur Arts & Culture Students' Union (AMACSU) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of renowned musician Chongtham Vikram Singh at his apartment in Delhi.

AMACSU demanded that both Manipur and Delhi Governments give befitting punishment to all involved in the heinous attack and shared grief of the bereaved family.

It said his death has left a void among rock music lovers and is a great loss for artists of the State.

AMACSU also condoled the untimely demise of Saikhom Kamlakanta, noting his contributions as social activist, writer and AAMSU president, and shared grief of his family.
