Ops in valley: 86 firearms, 974 rounds recovered

In a major crackdown in the valley districts of the state, combined security forces recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike stores during coordinated operations in the early hours of Tuesday.
Acting on specific intelligence, security forces carried out the operation in Imphal East, Kakching, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts, IGP (Zone-II) K Kabib said, addressing a press conference.
"Coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple locations by joint teams, comprising the Manipur Police, CAPFs, Army and Assam Rifles," he said.

"A total of 86 weapons, along with 974 different types of grenades, ammunition, explosives and mortar shells were recovered.
Forty-one magazines and six wireless handsets were also recovered," he added.
Kabib said this recovery was a major accomplishment for the security forces in their mission to restore peace, uphold public order and safeguard the lives and properties of people.
"The police are committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure Manipur.
We also urge the people to cooperate with the police and security forces, and promptly report any suspicious activities or information related to illegal arms," he said.
According to a press statement issued by the office of the Director General of Police, Manipur, the joint operations were carried out based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the concealment of arms and ammunition across various locations.
The operations were launched simultaneously in peripheral and suspected areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts.
Teams comprising personnel from Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and the Army/Assam Rifles were part of the operations.
The recoveries included 86 weapons of various types and 974 rounds of live ammunition, as well as explosives and other warlike materials.
Among the recovered weapons were 19 pistols, 16 self-loading rifles (SLRs), 16 SBBL/Bore Action guns, nine other rifles, six bolt action guns, five AK series rifles, five .303 rifles, three INSAS rifles, two carbines, two anti-riot guns, and one each of JVPC, DBBL, and two-inch mortar.
The ammunition haul included 526 rounds of 7.62 mm, 226 rounds of 5.56 mm, 190 rounds of .303, seven rounds of 9 mm, and four rounds of .32 mm.
Security forces also recovered nine grenades, six high-explosive mortar shells, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two tube launching devices, 41 assorted magazines, and six wireless handsets.
The statement said that these intelligence-led operations marked a major accomplishment for the security forces in their mission to restore normalcy, uphold public order, and protect the lives and property of citizens.
It reaffirmed the Manipur Police's commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms.
Senior police officials, the statement said, are working in close coordination with all stakeholders to sustain such operations in a focused and effective manner.
