Imphal, July 15 2024:
A day after Kshetrigao MLA Noorul Hassan, elected on NPP ticket, hinted at possibility of the party withdrawing support to the BJP-led government in case solution eludes the protracted crisis in the state, five MLAs of the National People's Party (NPP) said that Noorul Hassan did not consult them and his remark was purely on personal level unrelated with the party.
MLA Noorul had during a political meeting held in Khurai AC on Sunday said that NPP may withdraw support to the BJP-led government in the state if the government fails to take up concrete steps to resolve the more than one year long crisis.
However, five MLAs of NPP namely Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong AC), Khuraijam Loken (Wangoi AC), Irengbam Nalini (Oinam AC), Th Shanti (Moirang AC) and M Rameshwar (Kakching AC) termed MLA Noorul Hassan's remark very unfortunate and declared that they do not support Noorul Hassan's decision.
According to a joint statement signed by the five NPP MLAs, Noorul Hassan did not consult them about the decision along with reasoning that NPP supported the BJP-led government in Manipur as the party is part of the NDA government at the Centre.
As long as NPP central leaders go together with NDA, the same will continue in the state, they mentioned in the joint statement.
MLA Noorul Hassan had during the political meet held in Khurai said that he wants to talk much about state government's activities regarding the ongoing violence but unable to express any for being in the ruling side.
He also said that NPP MLAs have been closely monitoring administrative lapses of the state government regarding resolving the crisis and will wait till October 3 for taking party's decision to withdraw support.
Notably, NPP national vice president and former deputy chief minister Y Joykumar had recently indicated that the party may withdraw support in the interest of the people if no concrete step to resolve the crisis is taken up by state government within three months.
