Ban on Shumang Leela groups lifted

Imphal, April 15 2026: The ban imposed by UG groups on five prominent Shumang Leela parties, along with the president and lifetime general secretary of the Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC), for taking part in the 2025 Manipur Sangai Festival, has been lifted.

The announcement was made today by MSSLC general secretary Y Nilachadra at a press conference following a special general body meeting.

He said the council's long-standing by-laws were amended during the meeting.

The MSSLC thanked the public and all concerned parties for withdrawing the ban on the five Shumang Leela groups and artists.

The press conference was attended by MSSLC advisors Dr M Nara, L Tarpon, and Sivadutta Luwang, acting president Hawaibam Budhi, Iboyaima Khuman, Ranjit Ningthouja, Punimasi Leima, and other prominent male and female artists.
