Thoubal, September 13 2024:
A sit-in demonstration was organised at Lilong market under the aegis of United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC) Manipur on Friday for upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur and restoring peace in the state as swiftly as possible.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, UPMC general secretary Raees Ahmad Lampak criticised the BJP government at the central and in the state for failing to resolve the ongoing crisis lingering for 16 months.
Rather than returning to normalcy, the situation has worsened, with the number of deaths increasing daily, he said.
While some view the crisis as a dispute between two communities, the reality is that it has the potential to threaten the very integrity of the state, Raees forewarned while adding that the Meitei-Pangal community cannot afford to take this issue lightly.
Under no circumstances will the Meitei-Pangal community compromise with territorial integrity of Manipur, he said.
Raees Ahmad also highlighted that the ongoing crisis has resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, destruction of property beyond repair and displacement of thousands.
He urged both the central and state governments to acknowledge these hardships and act swiftly to resolve the crisis before the situation aggravates and goes out of hand.
During the sit-in, the participants displayed placards and chanted slogans such as "Long Live Manipur", "Territorial integrity of Manipur cannot be destroyed", "Restore peace in Manipur at the earliest" and "Save the indigenous people" .
