VCs, CSOs, political parties call on Governor

Imphal, January 13 2025:
Manipur Technical University (MTU) and Dhanamanjuri University vice chancellor H Gyan Prakash, as well as Manipur University of Culture vice chancellor Paonam Gunindro Singh along with registrars of the Universities called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, here, on Monday.
They briefed the Governor on the overall functioning of their respective universities, focusing on administration and academics.
The Governor encouraged the VCs to continue their dedicated efforts and work diligently to enhance the educational landscape of Manipur.
Former chief minister Rad-habinod Koijam along with Lt Gen (retd) K Himalay Singh also called on the Governor.
Later, Lt Gen (retd) L Nishikanta Singh also called on him (governor).
Representatives of Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry called on the Governor and submitted a memorandum.
They also apprised about various issues and difficulties faced by business bodies and individuals in the state due to the on going situation.
They highlighted the core issues affecting the business communities.
In the afternoon around 3.30 o'clock Monday, representatives of National People's Party (NPP) led by its national vice president, Y Joy-kumar Singh called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and apprised about the on going situation in the state.
The representatives included Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan, ex-MLA S Subhaschan-dra, NPP Manipur vice president U Ramesh, general secretary (administration) Russel Heisnam, general secretary (organisation) RK Rameshwor and IT & Frontal Organisation general secretary Laitonjam Jayananda.
During the meeting, they highlighted the difficulties faced by the people in terms of transportation, economy, law and order, etc., to Governor Bhalla and urged him to help resolve the crisis amicably so that normalcy can be restored.
Speaking to newspersons after the meeting, Y Joykumar informed that a copy of the memorandum submitted to union home minister Amit Shah in May, 2023, was also handed over to the Governor, who emphasised on the importance of confidence building, in addition to requesting him to take the steps in lowering the airfares from the state to other places considering the restricted movement of the people especially those residing in the valley.
Joykumar conveyed that he also urged the Governor to constitute a new peace committee, which the latter assured to consider.
He further urged the Governor for building new houses instead of the pre-fabricated ones for the IDPs, while also calling for taking steps to speed up the railway line project to Imphal.
He continued that the conflict is hot impossible to resolve but requires a serious and determined spirit to solve the same.
As such, he requested the Governor to do all that is necessary in this regard, while assuring that NPP would extend all possible help in this regard.
Later, leaders of Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA - a political alliance), called on the Governor and urged him to take steps for an early settlement to the on-going crisis in the state.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Anurag Bajpai also called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan later in the evening.
Representatives of Meetei Council, Moreh also called on the Governor and submitted a memorandum, highlighting the difficulties endured by the violence affected individuals and urged the Governor to take steps to foster harmony between communities and expedite the return to peace and normalcy in the region.
