228th death anniversary of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra to be observed in Mandalay

Imphal, July 11 2026:
The Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation, Manipur, will observe the 228th death anniversary of Maharaja Bhagyachandra across Mandalay in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Assam, Tripura and several places in Manipur this year.
The main event will be held for three days in Mandalay, the place where Meiteis settled, starting October 13.It will feature Nat Sankirtan, dance, music and other cultural programmes.
Addressing the media at the Foundation's office at Sega Road, Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Foundation spokesperson Takhellambam Irabot said a delegation from Manipur will leave Imphal on October 11 for Mandalay.
The observance will begin with 'Tarpan' at the Irrawaddy River on October 13 .
The 14-day tour will also include 4 days in Mandalay, 2 in Yangon, 1 at Inle Lake and 3 in Bangkok before returning to Manipur.
The Foundation will also release a 2027 Mandalay calendar in the local language of Mandalay and distribute Maharaja Bhagyachandra's biography.
