CCpur student bodies reject claim of KNLA on arson

Churachandpur, July 11 2014 : The student bodies, Hmar Students' Association (HSA), Thadou Kuki Students' Union (TKSU-GHQ) and Kuki Students Organisation (KSO Churachandpur district) in a joint statement said they found the claims made by one relatively unknown group KNLA, that it had committed arson and vandalism on the Tuibuong Service Station on the night of July 8 completely absurd, outrageous and utterly baseless.

The KNLA had reportedly said it had committed the arson act for selling adulterated fuel, and for not heeding its warning against such malpractice.

The student bodies said it had probed the allegations of the KNLA and found it devoid of any truth or substance, and it is rather - just a mere fabrication of lies and a desperate attempt at face saving and self-justification for having placed the lives of many residents of Tuibuong and the district headquarters at great risk by attempting to burn down a combustible unit/set-up like a petrol pump.

The student bodies then claimed that they had investigated the matter thoroughly, and have come to the findings that the so called KNLA had served a monetary demand of a specific amount to Tuibuong Service Station, and the failure to realise the same led to the unwarranted act of arson and vandalism on the night of July 8.The quality of fuel � petrol/diesel sold at all the Petrol Pumps is closely monitored & maintained by the Indian oil corporation, the only legitimate authority to do so, the joint statement said.

"The claim made by the KNLA that they had attacked the Petrol Pump in public interest is unjustified; rather they had endangered the lives of the local residents of Tuibuong by attempting to burn down the petrol pump.

The Facade of adulterated fuel was raised just to camouflage the truth/their real intention, for their wanton act of impropriety on an essential unit like a petrol pump," the three student bodies said.

The three student bodies then urged that all the stake-holders in the society, irrespective of social or political affiliations should all work towards creating a conducive atmosphere for business; and refrain from making undue demands or unprovoked attacks on any business establishment in the district.

"Vital business or educational set-up like schools, petrol pumps, clinics, brick firms etc though owned by private entrepreneurs provides essential services or products for the need of the public; hence it should be the priority of the administration to ensure their safety and smooth functioning," the three student bodies added.

"We appeal to the KNLA to detest from such acts which could create fear psychosis in the minds of the public like issuing threats / serving monetary demands on individuals & business firms.

The KNLA should issue unconditional apology to the Public for putting innocent lives at great peril on the night of July 8, 2014," the three student bodies appealed.
