AMPFA celebrates

All Manipur Progressive Farmers Association (AMPFA) celebrated its 18th foundation day together with the villagers of Thamlaikhul and Heinoumakhong villages of Chandel district today.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Thoubal District Fisheries Officer Y Shanti said that farmers must be encouraged to live with dignity.
He also said that farmers must also put in effort to enhance fish production and protect the indigenous fishes of Manipur.
AMPFA president Jay Nongmaithem, who attended the occasion as functional president, said that the population of Manipur has reached 28 lakh mark and around 6.5 MT of foodstuff is required to feed these large number of people per year.
However, the State produces only 4.5 MT of foodstuff per year, he added.
Later at function, the gathering shouted slogans like 'protect agricultural land', 'implement Agricultural Produces Act', 'let's enhance production', 'be self reliant' and 'construct canals' etc.
Thamlaikhul village chairman T Mesha Maring and Heinoumakhong village chairman DR Kodar Maring were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
