UG cadres netted as SFs intensify Ops in valley

Imphal, March 09 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal activities, security forces arrested several active cadres belonging to different UG organisations from various parts of the state on Sunday.

The arrests were made as part of intensified search operations and area domination conducted in fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts.

According to a press release issued by the Manipur police control room, five active cadres of the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) were arrested from Gandhi Avenue, Thangal Bazar under City police station, Imphal West.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Keisham Robertson Meitei alias Nanao (29), Moirangthem Tanu Devi alias Chinglembl alias Ichanthoi (21), Nameirakpam Rashini Devi alias Thoibi alias Mangaleima (25), Meikam Ichan Chanu (32), and Laishram Menaka Chanu alias Lanchenbi (27) .

Police recovered a two-wheeler, five mobile phones, and an ID card from their possession.

The arrested individuals were reportedly involved in extortion and transportation of arms and ammunition.

In another operation in Imphal East, one active cadre of NRFM, Laiphrakpam Soniya Devi alias Tombi alias Lamjingbi (24), was apprehended from Golapati Masjid Achouba Awang Leirak under Porompat police station.

She was allegedly involved in extorting money from the general public, private firms, and government officials.

Police recovered a mobile phone and a wallet containing a sum of Rs 1,07,260 from her possession.

Further operations in Imphal East led to the arrest of two active cadres of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-Pro) from Khongman Nandeibam Leikai under Irilbung PS.

The arrested cadres have been identified as Chirom Rostam Meitei alias Chiromba (25) and Heikrujam Arvind Singh alias Michael alias Heiroiba (32) .

They were reportedly engaged in extortion activities.

Two mobile phones were seized from them.

Similarly, three more active cadres of PREPAK-Pro were arrested from Heinoupok near Ima Medhapati School in Imphal West.

The individuals have been identified as Laishram Boboi Meitei alias Boishemba (28), Palujam Babu Singh alias Luthumba (25), and Yumnam Athoibi Chanu.

They were also allegedly involved in extortion from the public, private firms, and government officials.

Three mobile phones were seized from their possession.

In another operation at RIMS Main Gate in Lamphel, police arrested an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party - People's War Group (KCP-PWG), identified as Sorokhaibam Inaoton Singh (38), on the charge of extorting money from government officials and the general public in and around Imphal.

A mobile handset was seized from him.

Additionally, another KCP-PWG member, Sandham Romen Singh (39), was arrested from Samurou in Imphal West.

Police recovered 11 demand letters from his possession, which were allegedly used for extortion.

On the same day, three active cadres of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were arrested from Langol Type II in Imphal West.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ngangbam Nishan Meitei (24), Ashangbam Manikanta Singh (37), and Sorokhaibam Nganthoi Singh (23) .

According to the police, they were involved in extorting money through illegal tribunal trials.

Security forces recovered two four-wheelers, three mobile handsets, and other miscellaneous items from their possession.

Meanwhile, a cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) identified as Mohen Takhellambam alias Renyai (29) was apprehended by security forces from Indo-Myanmar Gate No 2 near Border Pillar 79 under Moreh PS in Tengnoupal district on Saturday.

Alongside these arrests, security measures have been tightened across the state.

The movement of three vehicles carrying essential commodities along NH-2 was ensured under strict security measures.

Security convoys have been deployed at sensitive locations to facilitate the safe passage of vehicles and prevent any untoward incidents, the statement said.

Security forces also arrested two active members of KYKL from near Lokchao River under Moreh police station on March 6.The arrested persons have been identified as Keisham Naocha alias Ningshingba (38) of Nongpok Sekmai under Thoubal district and Ningthoujam Sanjay (18) of Potsangbam Mamang Leikai under Bishnupur district.

An active member of the proscribed PREPAK identified as Ningthoujam Dhananjoy was also arrested along with recovery of a mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, a wallet, an RC book, Rs 1,000 and a Tata Nexon from his possession.

Security forces also arrested one Mayanglambam Borish Singh (24) and seized 13C 5G mobile phone.

Another active member of a proscribed group identified as Thoudam Premkumar Singh (38) was arrested from near Bir Tikendrajit Airport.

Two mobile handsets, one Aadhaar card and one Airtel payment debit card were seized from him.

Two active members of proscribed armed groups identified as Moirangthem Jiban Singh 27) and Laishram Tiken Singh (40) were also arrested from near RIMS main gate.

Two mobile handsets, one Aadhaar card and Rs 50,130 including Rs 50,000 collected from extortion were seized from them, said a police statement issued on Saturday.
