Imphal, June 07 2024:
Owing to the BJP falling short of absolute majority and failing to secure even one seat in Manipur in the just concluded 18th Lok Sabha elections, ten sions within the NDA allies have cropped up leading to postponement of the oath-taking ceremony of the new government formation, claimed Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra, while opining that the new NDA government is unlikely to survive for long.
Talking to media persons before leaving for Delhi for the CWC meeting on Saturday, Meghachandra contended that due to BJP's failure to live up to the expectation of the people, public trust in the party has been waning, leading to growing anti-BJP sentiments as could be comprehended from results of the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
Consequently, BJP must now adopt a humbler approach, as its previous arrogance is no longer justified.
Additionally, the longevity of the new NDA government seems uncertain, the Congress president maintained.
Noting that Nitish Kumar of JD-U and Chandrababu Naidu of TDP would be kingmakers of the new NDA government, he pointed out that the JD-U and TDP leaders setting pre-conditions in exchange of extending support underscore that the new government would be under serious strain and possibly collapse.
Meghachandra also recounted that Chandrababu had served jail time under the previous Modi government, which testified arrogance and hidden agenda of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to suppress alliance partners as well as the opposition parties.
Moreover, there is growing anti-BJP sentiments among the populace, which could spark imminent political realignment both at the centre and in Manipur.
On the other hand, it has been noted that the Congress party is maintaining good relations with alliance partners in the INDIA bloc and enjoys favourable conditions both at the central and state levels, he claimed.
Regarding the situation in the state, Meghachandra lamented that there is no sign yet about abatement in ethnic conflict consequently imperilling the people.
The Jiribam incident on Thursday where one man was mercilessly murdered by unknown miscreants is very unfortunate and MPCC condemns it in the strongest terms.
The authority concerned should trace the culprits and initiate legal actions against them in addition to bringing the situation in Jiribam under control, he appealed.
The BJP government s inability to restore peace in the state and protect lives and properties of the people, coupled with its failure to abolish the free movement regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar as promised, have contributed to the growing anti-BJP sentiments among the public, he asserted.
