₹106 cr released for tourism projects in state

The ministry of tourism, under its Swadesh Darshan scheme, has sanctioned key projects in the state aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and promoting cultural heritage.
As per the information provided by union minister for tourism and culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, two major projects have been sanctioned in the state and Rs 106.65 crore has been released so far.
According to a press release by PIB Delhi, under the North-East Circuit in 2015-16, Rs 72.23 crore was allocated for the development of the tourist circuit in Manipur covering Imphal and Khongjom, out of which Rs 61.32 crore has been released and Rs 61.25 crore utilised.
Similarly, under the Spiritual Circuit in 2016-17, Rs 45.34 crore was sanctioned for the development of Shri Govinda-jee, Shri Bijoy Govindajee, Shri Gopinath, Shri Bungshibodon, and Shri Kaina temples.
Of this, Rs 45.33 crore has been released and Rs 43.04 crore utilised.
The Swadesh Darshan scheme, launched in 2014-15, sanctioned 76 projects worth Rs 5287.90 crore across the country.
In its revamped version, Swadesh Darshan 2.0, 34 projects have been sanctioned so far for Rs 791.25 crore to further develop tourism destinations.
On the other hand, under the Dekho Apna Desh initiative, which was launched in January 2020 to promote domestic tourism, the ministry of tourism has been actively engaging citizens through various promotional activities.
As part of this initiative, a People's Choice poll was launched to identify the most preferred tourist attractions, the release stated.
According to the state-wise Domestic Tourist Visits (DTV) data, Manipur recorded 49,669 visitors in 2020 and 49,371 in 2021 .
The number increased significantly to 1,39,518 in 2022 but dropped to 57,701 in 2023 .
