DC Bishnupur chairs meeting on implementation of Clean Himalayan Hill Cities initiative at Sendra

Bishnupur, August 05 2026: Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative, Manipur at Sendra under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for a sustainable and coordinated approach to make Sendra a clean, plastic-free tourist destination.

She emphasized that effective waste segregation, proper collection, and proper disposal of waste are essential for maintaining cleanliness and preserving the natural beauty of the area.

Pooja Elangbam urged all stakeholders, including the Moirang Municipal Council, Loktak Development Authority (LDA), concerned line departments, and local communities, to work in close coordination for the successful implementation of the initiative.

Noting that Sendra already attracts a large number of visitors, she said maintaining a clean environment would further enhance its appeal and strengthen Bishnupur's position as a leading tourism destination in the State.

The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the importance of creating public awareness on responsible waste management and reducing the use of singleuse plastics.

She called for active participation from local clubs, youth organisations, and citizens in keeping Sendra clean and environmentally sustainable.

It may be mentioned that Sendra, Loktak Lake, has been selected as one of the sites under the Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative in Manipur.

The initiative is a 100-day targeted campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, focusing on capacity building, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, and community participation.

The campaign aims to preserve and conserve heritage and iconic tourist sites while promoting cleanliness, sanitation, and citizen engagement, particularly among the youth.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Toijam Opendro, representatives of the Loktak Development Authority, officials of the Moirang Municipal Council, concerned District Level Officers, and representatives of local clubs and organisations.
